ENVY TS 17 E8A11UA#ABA
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I need a new internal wireless "thing" (adapter/card/whateveryoucallit) for my HP ENVY TS 17 Notebook PC, PN E8A11UA#ABA. The service manual lists these 3 WiFi + BT cards:

  •  Intel® Centrino® Wireless-N 2230 802.11 b/g/n 2×2 WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0 Combo Adapter
  •  Mediatek MT7630E 802.11 b/g/n 1×1 Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0 combo adapter
  •  Ralink RT3290LE 802.11bgn 1x1 Wi-Fi + BT 4.0 Combo Adapter

Which one of these is the best? Is there a better one out there today? Looks like the SM was written in 2013.

Thanks!!!

Hi:

I recommend one of these two...

If you have or plan to get an AC router...

Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 802.11 ac 2x2 WiFi + BT 4.0                 HP Part #710661-001

If you only have a dual band wireless N router and don't plan on replacing it anytime soon...

Intel Dual Band Wireless-N 7260AN 802.11 a/b/g/n 2x2 WiFi + BT4.0    HP Part # 717381-001

Either card is readily available on Amazon or eBay.

Do your search by the HP part number, not the model of the wifi card.

Just make sure you uninstall the current wifi/bluetooth card drivers and software, and shut down, unplug the PC, and remove the battery, before installing the replacement wlan card.

Thanks for that!

Re. removing the existing drivers - there doesn't seem to be any. A couple of years ago, telephone support ran me through some trobleshooting & ID'ed the part as bad. Looks like the computer doesn't even recognize that the WLAN adapter is even installed anymore.

You're very welcome.

So the card is completely dead, and there is nothing showing up to remove.

Hopefully, there will be no conflict with the old wireless driver.  There usually isn't, but it is always good to uninstall the current adapter and driver if you can.

If the card you had came with bluetooth, you may be able to uninstall any bluetooth software in the Windows control panel>uninstall a program section.
