My laptop stopped connecting to the internet wirelessly. The message says "No internet, Secured". My router is a Netgear Nighthawk R8000. I've followed all the advice I've been able to find about fixing these issues including doing a back up and clean install. I've done all the recommendations provided by Windows support (including allowing them to remote in). Nothing has worked. I can only connect via a ethernet cable. I've read that the driver for the router may no longer support the WIFI card. I've also read that others having trouble with their HP's connecting to the internet have replaced the WIFI card. Just wondering if I should replace the WIFI card with a newer one compatible with my router and how would I find the right one?

I understand that you are looking for a new wifi card.

 

Have you performed the wifi card test?

 

Please perform the below steps to check the wifi card working or not.

 

1. Power off the PC and make sure that it is completely powered off.

2. Press the power button and the moment you press the power button immediately start tapping F2 key, you should see the system diagnostics screen.

3. Look for the component test, under that all the hardware will be listed, please choose the Wifi card and initiate the quick test.

Note: If it fails it will generate a 24 digits alphanumeric failure id, please capture that.

 

 

If the wifi card is not working, you have to replace the wifi card.

 

Your computer Supports the following WLAN formats:

● Realtek RTL8188EE 802.11 b/g/n 1x1 Wi-Fi Adapter available for Windows 8.1 and Windows 7

Thank you for those instructions. I was able to see that my wifi card is good. That's great news but doesn't solve the issue I'm having connecting to the internet wirelessly through my Netgear Nighthawk R8000 router. When I try to connect wirelessly my connection says "No internet, secured". I've tried a lot of things to get it working again with no solution.

Troubleshooting wireless network and Internet (Windows 10)

Also, you can look at the power management for your wireless adapter:
Disable the Power Off option for the adapter:
1. Open Device Manager. (Win Key+R > type devmgmt.msc > OK)
2. Expand the Network adapters.
3. Right-click on the Ethernet/Wireless Adapter and click Properties.
4. Click the Power Management tab.
5. Remove the check mark beside Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.
6. Click OK.
7. Test.

Forget a Network (Windows 10)
Forget Wireless Network Profiles in Windows 10

Reset the TCP/IP settings on your PC:
1. Go to your start screen/menu and type CMD.
2. Right-click on the command prompt icon and chose Run as administrator.
3. In the window that opens type "netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt" without quotes, and press enter.
4. Restart your PC and test.

It may also help to reset the Winsock catalogue:
1. Go to your start screen/menu and type CMD.
2. Right-click on the command prompt icon and chose Run as administrator.
3. In the window that opens type "netsh winsock reset" without quotes, and press enter.
4. Restart your PC and test.

Reinstall the network adapter drivers:
1. Download the drivers from here but do not run them yet.
2. Go to your start screen/menu and type Device Manager.
3. Expand Network adapters.
4. Right click on the wireless adapter and choose Uninstall.
5. Run the downloaded drivers from step 1.
6. Restart your PC and test.

Test an ethernet connection:
Self-explanatory. Test if the issue persists on a wired connection to rule out the wireless adapter hardware so troubleshooting can be directed towards the right areas.

Test another connection:
Many people rule out their home network as an issue if another device is working on the same network. Networking is not that simple. Each device interacts differently with your router or modem and it is impossible to rule out settings in that device until the notebook has been tested on another network.
