Microsoft Windows 11

How can I fix this problem on my other new laptop. I cannot connect to a jack because it reads as an error, when I go into settings it is showing that is disabled and will not let me enable. What can I do. Do I require the download on a USB to upload this without internet. Very disappointing that this is happening. I have purchased HP laptops most of my life and now this is the first time I can say that I am not happy to hear that you can no longer have a wifi built into the laptop and that it has to come through Microsoft as app. For the first time I am gutted. Cannot access through laptop to the extended manual help.  How can I fix this problem without going to IT for a new computer I have had for 5 minutes. Please help. Rant over.

Hi @JRB2305,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your new HP laptop is showing Wi-Fi as disabled, won’t let you enable it, and you can’t connect to the internet. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this and how you can fix it, even without internet access on that laptop.

1. Check Physical Wi-Fi Toggle

Some HP laptops have a dedicated Wi-Fi key (usually F12 with a wireless icon).

Press it once and see if the light changes (orange = off, white = on).

2. Verify in Network Settings

Go to Start > Settings > Network & Internet > Wi-Fi.

If the Wi-Fi option is greyed out, continue with the steps below.

3. Enable in Device Manager

Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.

Expand Network Adapters.

Look for your Wireless Adapter (Intel, Realtek, Qualcomm, or Broadcom).

If you see a down arrow, right-click and select Enable.

If it shows a yellow warning sign, the driver may be missing or corrupted.

4. Reinstall or Update Wireless Driver (Offline Method)

On another computer with internet, go to the HP Support site, enter your laptop model, and download the latest Wi-Fi driver.

Copy the file to a USB stick.

Plug the USB into your new laptop and install the driver manually.

5. Run Windows Network Troubleshooter

Go to Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.

Run the Internet Connections troubleshooter to auto-fix issues.

6. Check Airplane Mode

Press Windows + A to open Quick Settings.

Ensure Airplane Mode is off and Wi-Fi is toggled on.

7. BIOS/UEFI Check (if still disabled)

Restart your laptop and press Esc or F10 (varies by model) to enter BIOS.

Look under Advanced > Built-in Device Options to confirm Wi-Fi is enabled.

I hope this helps.
