My HP laptop used to connect to the Internet and now it does not. I don’t know if it has anything to do with a recent storm we had, but my other devices still connect to the Internet.

Hi @Sydney57,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I'm sorry to hear that your HP laptop is having trouble connecting to the internet. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the issue.

  • Restart your laptop and modem/router: Sometimes, a simple restart can fix connectivity problems. Turn off your laptop, as well as your modem and router (if separate), wait for a few seconds, and then turn them back on.
  • Check physical connections: Ensure that all cables connecting your modem/router to your laptop are properly plugged in and secure. If you are using a wireless connection, make sure the Wi-Fi is turned on and your laptop is within range of the wireless network.
  • Update network drivers: Outdated or incompatible network drivers can cause connectivity issues. Visit the official HP support website and download the latest network drivers for your specific laptop model. Install the drivers and restart your laptop.
  • Disable and re-enable the network adapter: Right-click on the network icon in the taskbar (bottom right corner) and select "Open Network & Internet Settings." Under the "Status" section, click on "Network reset" and follow the instructions to reset your network settings.
  • Run the Network Troubleshooter: Go to "Settings" > "Network & Internet" > "Status" > "Network troubleshooter." Follow the prompts to diagnose and fix any network-related problems.
  • Check firewall and antivirus settings: Sometimes, the firewall or antivirus software on your laptop may block internet access. Temporarily disable these programs or add exceptions for your internet connection to see if it resolves the issue.
  • Try a different network: If possible, connect your laptop to a different Wi-Fi network or use an Ethernet cable to connect directly to the modem/router. This will help determine if the problem is specific to your home network.
  • Reset the network settings: If none of the above steps work, you can try resetting your network settings. Go to "Settings" > "Network & Internet" > "Status" > "Network reset" and click on "Reset now." Keep in mind that this will remove all saved Wi-Fi networks and their passwords, so you will need to reconnect to them afterward.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
