Hp laptop pulled BIOS error 702 and would not boot after installing intel 7260 WiFi card with upgraded 2.4 and 5 Ghz bands. I'm looking for a patch or newer bios for HP Pavillion dv7t-6100 CTO model LM726AV .
WiFi card used is Intel 7260.HMW Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 Network Adapter PCI Express Half Mini Card 802.11 b/a/q/n/ac .
Laptop is EOL for HP support but I'm hoping someone here can help me.

Hi @Basis2002,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing issues with your HP Pavilion laptop after upgrading the Wi-Fi card. Error 702 typically indicates a BIOS or firmware problem, and in some cases, it might be related to hardware compatibility issues.
Here are some steps you can take to address this problem.
- Check Compatibility: Ensure that the Intel 7260 Wi-Fi card is compatible with your HP Pavilion laptop. You should check the laptop's user manual or HP's official website for a list of compatible Wi-Fi cards. If the card is not on the list, it might not work properly or require a custom BIOS update.
- Revert to the Original Wi-Fi Card: If the new Wi-Fi card is causing the issue, you can try reverting to the original Wi-Fi card that came with your laptop to see if the problem goes away.
- BIOS Update: Ensure that your laptop's BIOS is up-to-date. Sometimes, BIOS updates include fixes for hardware compatibility issues. Go to HP's official website, locate your laptop model, and check if there's a BIOS update available. If there is, follow the instructions provided to update your BIOS.
- Drivers and Software: Make sure you have the latest drivers and software for the Intel 7260 Wi-Fi card installed on your laptop. Visit Intel's official website to download the most recent drivers for the card.
- Hardware Inspection: Check that the Wi-Fi card is properly seated in its slot. Sometimes, a loose connection can cause issues. Turn off the laptop, remove the card, and then reinsert it carefully.
- Backup and Recovery: Before making any changes to the BIOS or your laptop's hardware, be sure to back up important data. If something goes wrong, you'll have a backup to restore from.
Remember that updating the BIOS carries some risk, and if not done correctly, it can potentially brick your laptop.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
