After changing the ink cartridges (HP recommended cartridges), I received a problem with the printer or ink system notice. I did trouble-shoot by turning off the printer and unplugging the power cord on several different occasions. I'm still receiving the same message.

Hi @PeaCe22,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you’ve done some good initial troubleshooting already, but the "There is a problem with the printer or ink system" error persists. This error usually indicates issues with the printer's hardware or ink system. Here’s a comprehensive guide to help resolve this problem:
Detailed Troubleshooting Steps
1. Check Cartridge Installation
- Verify Cartridge Placement:
- Open the printer and ensure the cartridges are correctly and securely installed.
- Remove the cartridges and check for any protective tape or packaging that might still be on them.
- Reinstall the cartridges, ensuring they click into place properly.
2. Inspect and Clean Contacts
- Clean Cartridge and Printer Contacts:
- Power off and unplug the printer.
- Remove the cartridges.
- Using a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with water or isopropyl alcohol, clean the copper-colored contacts on both the cartridges and inside the printer.
- Allow everything to dry completely before reinstalling the cartridges.
3. Check for Printer Hardware Issues:
- Open all accessible areas and check for any obstructions or paper jams.
- Remove any debris or paper fragments.
- Sometimes, issues with the printhead can cause errors. Check the printhead for any visible issues or blockages.
4. Reset the Printer
Power Cycle the Printer:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Wait for about 60 seconds.
- Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
Factory Reset (if necessary):
- If the error persists, perform a factory reset.
- Go to the printer’s control panel and navigate to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Restore Defaults.
- Note that this will erase all custom settings, so you will need to reconfigure your printer afterward.
5. Update Firmware and Drivers:
- Ensure your printer’s firmware is up to date.
- Visit the HP Support website and search for the latest firmware for your printer model.
- Download and install any available updates.
Driver Update:
- Ensure you have the latest drivers installed on your computer.
- Go to the HP Support website and download the latest drivers for your printer model.
6. Test with Different Cartridges
- Try a Different Set:
- Even though you are using HP recommended cartridges, they could be defective. Try using a different set of genuine HP cartridges to see if the issue persists.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
