Problem connecting dv7-3065dx laptop Atheros AR9285 wireless adapter to router 2WIRE RG2701HG-00

i purchased an hp pavilion dv7-3065dx laptop and spent over a dozen hours trying to connect to my wireless router. tried numerous different settings. hp support even suggested repair. finally i hit the jackpot. it turned out that the problem was that the SSID Broadcast was set to disabled on my wireless router. once i set it to enabled, it went fine even i set it back to disabled again after the first successful connection.

the wireless adapter is Atheros AR9285 and the wireless router is at&t 2WIRE RG2701HG-00.

think it was a bug and reporting it would help someone save some time and frustration.

Do you have issues connecting to certain public and/or private networks with your particular WiFi adapter (the Atheros AR9285)?

It seems that you were unable to locate your wireless network in order to connect to it in the list of available networks. In my particular case, i have no trouble locating the network(s) I want to connect to. My issue is being unable to actually connect to them.

There is a known issue as far as the wireless network adapter goes.  I have been told by more than one tech.

This is how it needs to be corrected as far as resetting it.

Go to Control Panel. Click on it. Then go into View network status & tasks under the heading NETWORK & INTERNET.

Where it says View Your Active Connections  ----------------------------------Connect or Disconnect.   Right under connect or disconnect you will see your present connection.  Click on:  Wireless Network Connection (will be highlighted in blue). The wireless network connection status window will open. In this window at the bottom you will see three buttons: Properties, Disable, & Diagnose.  click on the Diagnose button.  By doing this, you will reset your wireless network adapter.

Have been doing this ever since I bought the dv7-3065dx.  You will know when it needs to be reset.  Generally, when the page your trying to get to times out.  This is minor considering everything else this computer can do.  Not a gaming machine, but then again, I will let my PS3 do my gaming for me.

The known issue with the Atheros AR9852 chipset is that it is complete garbage, and that HP has blacklisted other network cards preventing you from swapping it out with hardware that has much better support for various Wi-Fi network configurations. Instructions on resetting the wireless adapter is not helpful in this circumstance. (Especially when the thread author indicated that he/she had found the solution to his/her particular problem. Are you also aware that this thread is over a year and a half old?)

If you are indeed resetting the adapter constantly, perhaps you should look into troubleshooting/replacing your adapter or router, and altering your network configuration. I had similar problems that turned out to be related to router firmware. Since replacing the router firmware with DD-WRT, I've had ZERO problems maintaining a connection.

If you are interested in learning more about why the Atheros AR9825 is an inadequate wireless card, you can read more about it in the conversation here: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Wireless-Internet-and-home/Pavilion-DV7-3165DX-Atheros-AR9285-WiFi-Adap...
