I recently bought a HP Omnibook 5.  Everything working fine. Daughter uses one time and says it's no connecting to the Internet. Had no problem before.

I'm doing all the troubleshooting but to no avail.

Should I just do a factory reset as not much on it at the moment.

Any help greatly appreciated 😊

Hi @Squidgy69

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand how frustrating it feels when your HP Omnibook 5 suddenly refuses to connect to the Internet after working perfectly before. You’ve already tried troubleshooting, and I appreciate the effort you’ve put in.

Let’s go through a few focused checks before considering a factory reset, since often the issue can be cleared without wiping the system.

Step‑by‑step actions

1. Confirm Wi‑Fi is enabled

  • On the taskbar, click the network icon.
  • Make sure Wi‑Fi is turned on and airplane mode is off.
  • If Wi‑Fi is missing, press Fn + F12 (or the key with the wireless icon) to toggle it.

2. Forget and reconnect to the network

  • Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Wi‑Fi > Manage known networks.
  • Select your current Wi‑Fi and click Forget.
  • Reconnect by entering the password again.

3. Run the Windows network troubleshooter

  • Open Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.
  • Run the Internet Connections troubleshooter.
  • Follow the prompts to repair common issues.

4. Reset network settings

  • Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Advanced network settings > Network reset.
  • This reinstalls all network adapters and resets settings to default.
  • Restart the laptop afterward and reconnect to Wi‑Fi.

5. Update wireless drivers

6. Test with another network

  • If possible, connect to a mobile hotspot or another Wi‑Fi router.
  • This helps confirm whether the issue is with the laptop or the home network.

Your HP Omnibook 5 may not need a factory reset. By forgetting and reconnecting to Wi‑Fi, running the troubleshooter, resetting network settings, and updating the wireless driver, you can often restore connectivity quickly. Testing with another network helps confirm whether the problem is local or device‑related.
