I have the same problem many have indicated on the community forums - My RLT8188EE 802.11 bgn wi-fi adapter has intermittently worked for a while now, and no longer works at all now. I have updated all drivers on the machine, and am using latest updated version of Windows 10. All other tablets, phones, and laptops in the house can still connect fine to wi-fi.
I would like to buy a better wi-fi adapter to replace it with, but want to be sure I get one that will work with my machine.
I have an HP Notebook 17-X116DX.
Thanks for any information you can provide on what new wi-fi adapters will work with my notebook.

Hi:
The only model wifi adapter that will work in your notebook without doing extensive disassembly to run a second wifi antenna would be this one...
Realtek RTL8821CE 802.11 ac 1x1 WiFi + Bluetooth 4.2 Combo Adapter (MU-MIMO supported) HP part # L17365-005
The card has been on back order for months at the HP Parts Store, but you can purchase this model wifi card on eBay.
https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=L17365-005&_sacat=0&_sop=15
The above card will add AC wifi speeds up to 433 MBPS on the 5.0 GHz wifi band, and Bluetooth 4.2.
Below is the link to the service manual for your notebook's model series....the wifi card R & R procedure can be found in chapter 6.

I highly recommend that you purchase a set of notebook pry tools to facilitate opening the notebook without marring or scratching the plastic components.
