Hi @KNayyar,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It seems like you're experiencing issues with your HP Pavilion Gaming laptop not connecting to the 5GHz band of your Wi-Fi network despite having the hardware capability. Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try.

  • Update Drivers: Ensure you have the latest drivers for your Realtek RTL8822CE wireless adapter. You mentioned your driver version is 2024.10.228.1, but it might be worth checking if there are any newer updates available from HP's support website or Realtek's website.
  • Check Router Settings: Ensure that your Wi-Fi router is configured to broadcast on the 5GHz band and that it's not set to operate in a mode that would exclude devices like your laptop. Sometimes routers have settings that restrict certain devices from connecting to specific bands.
  • Reset Network Settings: Sometimes resetting the network settings on your laptop can resolve connectivity issues. You can do this by going to Settings > Network & Internet > Status > Network reset, then follow the prompts to reset your network settings.
  • Check Windows Power Management Settings: Sometimes, Windows power management settings can cause issues with Wi-Fi performance. Ensure that your power management settings are not set to "Power saver" mode, as this can limit the performance of your wireless adapter.
  • Verify Bandwidth Settings: Check the settings on your Wi-Fi adapter to ensure that it's set to use the 5GHz band. Sometimes there are options in the driver settings that allow you to prioritize certain bands or specify which bands to use.
  • Disable/Re-enable Adapter: Try disabling and then re-enabling the wireless adapter in Device Manager. Sometimes this can reset the adapter and resolve connectivity issues.

By going through these steps, you should be able to diagnose and hopefully resolve the issue with your laptop's Wi-Fi connectivity to the 5GHz band.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi Alden,

1. I tried the latest version on hp/Realtek, both were older than the windows update driver. Then I found this latest version on another hp forum post of similar issue. All 4 drivers had the same issue.

2. Router settings are fine. My work laptop doesn't have any problem, neither do my phone / tab.

3. I tried reset, i uninstall and reinstall the device drivers.

4. Power state is set to performance.

5. Laptop is connected to the 5ghz SSID, but it is using older 802.11a standard(wifi 2) instead of the current x.11ac(wifi 5). The driver doesn't even show wifi AC option as i shared in screenshot. I tried to disable all older format from router, but it didn't work either.

Any other suggestions would be helpful, I'll try to create a linux bootable to confirm if its hardware or windows issue this week. Will update accordingly.

Thanks...
