Pavillion G6
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi, since I've updated to windows 10 home edition that WiFi is getting worse and worse

to the point where I can't even look at a tv stream at 480p.

I don't have a clue of what is happening but I tested it with other computers and I get transfer rates of around 30MB while my pavillion at most gets 4MB

I've formatted my machne thinking it might be anything, now that I've got only Win10 and browsers nothing changed!

my laptopis a Pavillion G6 i7-3632QM @2.20GHZ with 8 Gb of Ram

Any help is greatly appreciated

Hi:

The Ralink 3290 is a legacy wifi card that does not do well with W10.

It may have in 2015 when W10 first came out but as the newer W10 updates have rolled out, the wifi adapter becomes less and less operational.  Some to the point where they disappear altogether.

This is the only W10 wifi driver that HP has for that adapter.

What model G6 do you have?

If it is a g6-22xx or 23xx you might be able to upgrade the wifi card to something decent.

Hi Paul,

Thank you for reaching out to help me.

I tried everything I could and was getting the same bad results 4Mb/DL was the most I could squeeze of my wireless

I went to check on my model and it is in that range where you told me I could get a way better option

My Laptop it is a G6-2311sp

Can you help me out with a new driver option. Or in case it doesn’t improve that much please advise me to downgrade Windows 7 or 8 (I’ll be honest I never liked Win8)

Thanks so much!

Ilda

You're very welcome.

I believe that your model can use this card...I'm not 100% sure, but I believe it will work.

Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 802.11 ac 2x2 WiFi + BT 4.0    HP Part # 710661-001

The card is readily available on eBay or Amazon, and it doesn't cost very much at all.

Do your search by the HP part number, not by the model number of the wireless card.

There are no other W10 drivers for the Ralink wifi adapter.

You can go back to W7 or W8 and see if that works better, but if you are happy with W10, I think it would be better to change the wifi adapter.

Here is the link to the service manual for your notebook. Thw wifi card R & R procedures can be found in chapter 4.
