HP ENVY 17-j000 Notebook PC series
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

I have a different problem with the Realtek RTL8188EE 802.11 bgn Wi-Fi Adapter.  It will not recognize a 5 gig network.

I have version 2023.48.1130.2016 (12/29/2016)

I have not upgraded to Windows 10.

I'd appreciate any suggestions about fixing this problem.

It ONLY supports 2.4GHz and will NEVER recognize 5.0GHz network, no matter what you do unless you change to a different wifi card.

Unfortunately your machine was built around mid 2013 therefore the chance to change to a newer wireless card is very slim to none. Option:
