subject pretty much sums it up. i have 300Mbps service and barely get 65Mbps on a wired laptop. can the realtek be adjusted to get 300Mbps? isp tech was here couple of hours ago and confirmed everything on their side is fine. he connected his laptop and got 275 (all speeds via speedtest.net).
if it can't be adjusted, what are my alternatives? went with 300 because it was packaged with tv and landline.
also, i updated the drivers.
thanks.

well, it turns out the realtek is the culprit in slow speeds. ran speed tests on my 10-yr old hp laptop equipped with a marvell yukon. have been getting low/mid 90's, wired and wireless. realtek getting low/mid 30's, wired and wireless on my new machine.
going to get a 3.0 usb ethernet doohickie. gonna look for one with 1Gb bps.
this laptop is was bought in july 2016. i suspect the realtek was defective from the get go. i was getting pretty much consistent speeds (was on 11Mbps plan), but when upped to 300 plan...

thanks for the reply. i guess i should have gone with the optional card. or hp should explicitly say that the stock card can only do 100Mbps up and down, to increase sales of optional cards and to let unsuspecting customers like me know about it.
