I would like to replace my internal WiFi card in my 15ba029ng Notebook, as the WiFi card is not supporting the 5GHZ band. Due to limitation of availible USB ports I don't want to use a nano USB WiFi card.

I found an online seller who is offering the Intel® Wireless N 7260 5Ghz WLAN+Bluetooth HP SPS: 784647-005 PCIe M.2 NGFF  Wifi card, but the seller is telling me that this Wifi adapter won't work because of the BIOS whitelist, as the SPS number is not supported.

My question is, does anybody know some kind of online database, where I can check wich internal WiFi adapter are compatible with my laptop, or can anybody tell me for sure a 5Ghz internal Wifi adapter wich will work with the 15ba029ng Notebook?

Thx in advance.

Hi:

Your notebook does not have a BIOS whitelist.

However, the Intel 7265 won't work because it requires two antenna wires to work properly and your notebook only has one.

There is only one AC wifi card you can upgrade to that works with one antenna and that is this one...

Realtek RTL8821CE 802.11 ac 1x1 WiFi + Bluetooth 4.2 Combo Adapter (MU-MIMO supported) HP part # L17365-005.

You can find this model on eBay, or Ali Express.

https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=L17365-005&_sacat=0&_sop=15

You can also get it directly from HP at the link below...14.41 euros.  Enter the part number in the search window.

https://parts.hp.com/hpparts/Default.aspx?mscssid=8D415A41BCFF48DAAE0299BD8A675760

The card has the same throughput as the RTL8723BE card on the 2.4 GHz wifi band, but on the 5.0 GHz wifi band with an AC router, it has a maximum throughput of 433 MBPS.

Below is the link to the service manual, where you can find the wifi card removal and replacement procedure...

Hi Paul,

thank you very very much for all your effort!!!

I've orderd the WiFi card directly from HP as I live in Germany, and the Shipping from China or US will take too long.

Will keep you updated after install.

You're very welcome.

I'm looking forward to reading about the results of your notebook's wifi card upgrade project.

The antenna cable is very thin and delicate, so use care when removing and reattaching it.

This video from another model notebook may be of help to you.  The card in your notebook may not have the plastic shield, but it would have the same type antenna cable.

And again thank you very very much for your help and support! I will try to record a video of the upgrade process, because I've also ordered some additional Memory.

BTW: Is there anything else which can be upgraded, especially for the speed or a backlit keyboard?

You're very welcome.

Since your notebook already came with a M.2 solid state drive, there is nothing else you cannot upgrade the processor or graphics.

I don't know about the backlit keyboard.  You can see if there is a part for one in the service manual and I don't know if it requires different connectors or not.

You may want to start a new post on whether or not you can install a backlit keyboard.

Ok, thank you for the quick response. First I will upgrade the memory and WiFi card.

My hope is to get a little better performance on YouTube videos, as the GPU uses the main RAM (shared RAM), and I've got

a lot of frame freezes watching videos at 1080p. It is definitely not my broadband as I got 250Mbit/s down and 100Mbit/s up.

If the performance will raise after the Mem update and switching to 5Ghz, I will consider upgrading the keyboard and start a new thread.

How ever thank you very much, you've helped me a lot! *THUMBSUP*

Anytime.

Please bear in mind that the AMD Quad-Core E2-7110 processor your notebook comes with, is an entry level low power processor.

On a great day it is not going to perform well.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

I absolutely know but for some word processing, surfing and watching videos at lower resolution it is sufficient.

I hope that the upgrades will help (maybe) just a little bit?! If not - it is not a big deal as it is a cheap notebook.

How ever I must say that I'm satisfied with the performance, most due to the SSD disk, and I think for a budget laptop it is really working well.

One further question: Is it possible to overclock the CPU/GPU?

HP Recommended

Unfortunately, you cannot overclock any of the hardware.

The BIOS is locked down.
