These are the best HP options:

Broadcom BCM4352 802.11ac 2×2 Wi-Fi + BT 4.0 Combo Adapter 724935-001

Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 3160 802.11ac 1×1 WiFi + BT 4.0 Combo Adapter 710662-001

Intel Wireless-N 7260BN 802.11b/g/n 2×2 WiFi + BT 4.0 Combo Adapter 717384-001

Here is the Service Manual:

Manual

"How-to" on page 44. Before buying a replacement check to be sure HP has provided 2 antennae. I believe they will have in your model but let's be sure. Easy to remove the T shaped back cover to take a look. See p. 40.

Of those listed above this is the best and next would be the Broadcom:

https://www.amazon.com/Intel-Wireless-n-7260-Bluetooth-Wireless/dp/B00PDL4MLY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid...

You can install a non-HP adapter because you do not have the "whitelist" but these are the best adapters anyway and HP versions do not cost any more so you might as well install the HP version of these cards.
