Reset my HP G60 to factory settings and can't connect to my home network

HP G60
Microsoft Windows Vista

i reset my hp g60 laptop back to factory settings using the original setup disks.  my loptop recognizes my wireless network but will not fully connect.  i tried to use the wireless setup wizard and it said i was already connected but i still cannot access the internet.

when hovering over the internet icon in the bottom tray is says:

Unidentified

Access: local only

when i contacted HP they tried to charge me $100 to help with my issue,  thought that was absurd.

would appreciate any help.

thank you,

chris

Do you know which wireless card chipset you have? So you are seeing the access point in the list of available connections? Have you tried seeing if it will connect to a different access point like maybe Starbucks or something?

Go into device manager and open the list of network adapters to see how the wireless is described...will be Broadcom or Atheros or Ralink, something like that.

Atheros is the wireless.

32 or 64 bit Vista:

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp39001-39500/sp39403.exe

Are there any other devices in the device manager with exclamation points or other issues?

No, I do not see any exclamation points.  everything seems to be in working order.
