Hey there @Shrikanthz thank you for joining the HP Forums,

I understand that your mobile phone is not getting detected by the laptop.

This error looks to be a driver issue. Please install Samsung Kies on your laptop this should install all Samsung mobile phone drivers.

Link to download Samsung Kies: http://hp.care/2cun9YC

If the above-mentioned step does not work, then please provide the hardware ID for the device.

Go to the device manager and click on the Unknown Device needing drivers.

Then click on the Details tab at the top of the Unknown Device window.

Now you see a Properties drop down list and Device Description.

Click the Drop down and select the second item (Hardware ID;s).

Post the top string of characters you see in the window.

I will watch for your reply.

Have a great day!

Hi. ..thanks for a swift reply. However I don't see any unknown device listed under device manager. And it seems all required drivers are installed. And I don't see kies recognising my device as well.

Since you mentioned that your phone is not getting detected  on any other PC or laptop.

My laptop now shows unknown device under computer mgmt, but I see only 'USB\UNKNOWN' under value of hardware Id.
I tried uninstalling the device/updating device drivers but in vain.
I have latest firmware installed. Lollipop 5!

I forgot to my mention, it showed that the best best driver software for your device is already installed. Windows has determined the driver software for your device is up to date. 😡

Hi @Shrikanthz, thanks for the reply.

As your mobile phone still not getting detected on your computer.

Try few step recommended below.

Open Settings
Select "Developer options" in the System section
Check the box for "USB Debugging"
Press "OK" to confirm.

Also, use Samsung original data cable. And make sure your device is in MTP mode.
