Hi:
SIM cards don't need any drivers.
Since you are posting this problem, no doubt your notebook is one of the 90% that don't come with the required WWAN adapter that connects to the cellular service.
The WWAN adapter was a very expensive option.
All HP 840 G1's come with the SIM card slot.
All the SIM card does is authorize you to use the cellular service provider's network.
To confirm that your notebook does not have the required hardware, go to the device manager, click to expand the Network adapters device manager category and if your notebook has a WWAN card, one of these models will be listed there:
HP hs3110 HSPA+ Mobile Broadband Module
HP lt4112 LTE/HSPA+ Mobile Broadband Module
If your notebook does not have one of those cards, you can see if you can buy one on the secondary market.
Below is the link to the service manual. Chapter 3, page 29 has the list of supported WWAN cards with their HP part numbers.
I believe the HP lt4111 LTE/EV-DO/HSPA+ Gobi Mobile Broadband Module can only be used in the United States of America.
You can only buy one of the models listed in the service manual and it must have the HP part number on it, or it will not work.
Before buying a WWAN card, make sure your notebook has the required antenna wires in the WWAN compartment that must be connected to the card in order for it to get reception.
