HP Envy 15J

I'm with Virgin (212-219 Mbs/sec) My wifi download speed to my mobile phone is 217Mbs/sec, but to my laptop is only 40Mbs/sec.

All my drivers are up to date. I've temporally switched off my firewall and security and it made no difference.

It makes no difference if I use Wifi or the LAN cable, both give 40Mbs/sec

Any suggestions on how to improve the speed?

What is the maximum download speed that my HP Envy 15J can handle?

Thanks.

Welcome to HP Community

I have gone through your Post and would like to help

I suggest you download and run the HP Support Assistant from this Link: https://www8.hp.com/us/en/campaigns/hpsupportassistant/hpsupport.html?jumpid=va_r602_us/en/any/psg/p...

HPSA will automatically search for all the latest drivers for your Notebook

  1. Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.

Click Updates in the My notebook pane

  2. Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.

Updates list in HP Support Center

  3. Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.

  4. Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.

  5. Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.

Also ensure Windows is up to date.

Select the Start  button, and then go to Settings  > Update & security  > Windows Update , and select Check for updates. If Windows Update says your device is up to date, you have all the updates that are currently available

Keep me posted how it goes

Thank you and have a wonderful day 😊

Hi,

Thanks for the info you sent.

I did exactly as you stated: the HPSA returned "You're up to date with software and drivers"

and the Windows "Check for Updates" returned You are up to date.

However there is a feature update Windows 10, version 21H1 which I have not downloaded as I didn't want to add any problems that always seem to be associated with new releases.

I'll take your advice on that.

So I'm still at 40mbs, and nothing has changed.

Hoping to hear from you again

Try reinstalling the driver directly from Device Manager

- Select the Start button, type Device Manager, and select it from the list of results.

- Look for Network Adapters and expand the List

- Look for Wireless driver then right-click it, and select Update Driver.

- Select Search automatically for updated driver software.

- If these steps don't work, try reinstalling the driver: Open Device Manager, right-click the Wireless driver and select Uninstall. Restart your Notebook and Windows will attempt to reinstall the driver.

Hi

I did what you suggested here's a prt scn of the Network Adapters list - hope you can read it

I selected the top one - it was the only one that seemed close to what you asked me to do.

so I updated the Ralink RT3290 802.11bgn WiFi Adapter

Walker21_0-1625244237688.png

The update said I had the best Driver already loaded

So I deleted it and it got reloaded.

Ran the Speed Test and it's still 40mb/s

Is the Ralink adapter capable of greater than 40Mb/s or is it a limit of the hardware???

HP Recommended

The Notebook does have a 802.11b/g/n card and should perform more than 40Mb/s.

I suggest you perform a Refresh or Reset https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/how-to-refresh-reset-or-restore-your-pc-51391d9a-eb0a-84... and let me know if that solves the problem

Thank you
