@Jimjim9121, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your Wi-Fi button won’t stay on on your HP Chromebook, it’s usually due to one of the following issues:

Quick Fixes to Try First

  1. Restart Your Chromebook
A simple restart can often resolve temporary glitches. Hold the power button to turn it off and then turn it back on.
  2. Forget and Reconnect to Network
    • Click the time in the bottom right corner.
    • Tap the Wi-Fi icon, select your network, and click the gear ⚙️ icon.
    • Choose Forget to remove the network.
    • Try reconnecting by entering the Wi-Fi password again.
  3. Toggle Wi-Fi from Quick Settings
    • Tap the time in the bottom-right corner again.
    • If the Wi-Fi option is greyed out or won’t stay enabled, try turning Airplane Mode on and off.
  4. Check for System Updates
    • Click the time, then ⚙️ (Settings) > About Chrome OS > Check for Updates.
    • Restart your Chromebook if an update is available.

If the Button Still Won’t Stay On

If the initial fixes don’t work, try these deeper checks:

1. Hard Reset (not a Power Off)

  • Press and hold the Refresh key 🔄 (located on the top row) and tap the Power button.
  • Release both when your Chromebook starts up.

2. Check for Hardware Block

  • Some HP Chromebooks may have a physical Wi-Fi toggle switch (though this is rare). Ensure it’s not set to off.

3. Powerwash (Factory Reset)

This will erase all local data, so make sure to back up important files to Google Drive first.

  • Go to Settings > Advanced > Reset Settings > Powerwash.
  • Follow the prompts to reset your Chromebook.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
