Unable to catch 5GHz WI-FI signals. But I am able to catch 2.4 ghz signals. Can someone tell me the reason

Unfortunately, the Realtek RTL8732de wifi adapter that your notebook was delivered with only supports 2.4 GHz. When you come into the laptop market at the entry level, that is usually all you get.

You can purchase and use one of the tiny USB wifi dongles that supports 5 Ghz to add that frequency to those you can utilize.

Your notebook will only have one antenna cable connected to the wifi card in there now.

If you want to upgrade to an internal AC wifi adapter, this is the only one that will work with one antenna.

You can find one on eBay since the HP parts store has them on back order.

It will not be an easy task to replace the internal card, but below is the link to the service manual which provides the wifi adapter removal and replacement procedure.

The Realtek RTL8821CE is also only 2.4 GHz, so that is not going to give you access to any 5 GHz SSID.

I beg to differ with you.

I have recommended that model wifi card to more than a dozen forum members who want 5.0 Ghz wifi.

It is a 1 x 1 AC card...433 MBPS max throughput on the 5.0 GHz wifi band with an AC router.

150 MBPS on the 5.0 GHz wifi band with a dual band N router, and 72 MBPS on the 2.4 GHz wifi band.

Do a search for the many solved posts from me regarding that card.

It appears that I misread the specifications for the adapter. It does operate in 2.4 and 5 GHz wifi bands.
