HP Pavillon Notebook 15ab27nr
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

From Device manager, my network adapter is not showing a or ac. Does this means I'm not able to connect to my 5ghz network?

Your notebook only has one antenna cable, and I can't guarantee it doesn't have a BIOS whitelist either.

There is only one model wifi AC card where you can do a direct swap with, when your notebook only has one antenna cable.

There was a small line of notebooks that have BIOS whitelists after HP generally removed them, and I know the 15-ac### and 15-ae### do, but I am not sure about the 15-ab### model series.

A BIOS whitelist is a restriction on installing wifi cards that did not originally come with your notebook, and at the very most, are not listed as supported in the service manual.

If you want to risk a few bucks in hope that your notebook does not have a BIOS whitelist, you can do a direct swap for this model wifi card:

Realtek RTL8821CE 802.11 ac 1x1 WiFi + Bluetooth 4.2 Combo Adapter (MU-MIMO supported) HP part # L17365-005.

The only place I have been able to find this model is on eBay.

https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=L17365-005&_sacat=0&_sop=15

The card has the same throughput as the 8723BE on the 2.4 GHz wifi band, but on the 5.0 GHz wifi band with an AC router, it has a maximum throughput of 433 MBPS.

Below is the link to the service manual for your notebook, where you can find the wifi card removal and replacement procedure.

Hi:

Below is the link to the product specs page for your notebook,

https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c05165203

It has a single band wifi card which connects to the 2.4 GHz wifi band only.

So that's means I will have to purchase a new wireless card. Are AX cards available or will I have to purchase one that's an A or AC?

Thanks for the information. I'm going to look into that but also look for another laptop. I have Comcast higher tier speeds and now feel like I'm not getting my money's worth.
