i would like to upgrade the WIFI adapter to dual band and would like to know which cards are compatible. my laptop only has one antenna but i can resolve this by running another through the case but just need to know what card i can use

Your machine was built around 2014, due to the whitelist, upgrading wifi card outside the list is from hard to impossible. The following card is compatible
Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 3160 802.11 ac 1x1 WiFi + BT 4.0 combo adapter part # 710662-005 and it requires 2 antennas. You have to add 1 more antennae yourself.

If you don't want to go through the trouble of properly adding the second antenna, and you don't care about having Bluetooth, the wifi card that Banhien posted should work if you connect the sole antenna cable to the 3160's Main antenna terminal.
