Re: Upgrade Wireless BCM43142 on HP Stream Mini 200-010

Apparently there are two versions of the 7260 WiFi card. I ordered the 7260NGW version after opening the HP Stream Mini and viewing the existing card. The card probably will not arrive until late Thursday. I plan to download the Intel Proset driver package and see what happens.  I am worried about a possible whitelist in the BIOS, but there may be a solution for that as well.  I was really interested in the 7265 card, but I did not see an HP part number for it.

HP removed the whitelists from their notebook PC's around two years ago, so hopefully there isn't one in yours either.

Re: Upgrade Wireless BCM43142 on HP Stream Mini 200-010

Hi Paul, Nothing good is going on here. I opened the HP 200-010 and found a Broadcom BCM943142YHN_2 wireless card. I ordered an Intel 7260NGW as a potential replacement. The system recognized the Intel wireless card, but the card could not read any wireless signals. I guess that the AMI Aptio BIOS may be my problem. Just thought that you deserved an update. HP Support checked everything and finally said that the new card was not supported by HP. The Broadcom needs to be replaced since it is intermittant on the 2.5ghz band, but I want a card with the 5ghz ac band to access my new fiber gigabit connection. If I  find a solution, I will post again.  I would have bought the replacement card from HP if I could have found what I was looking for.

Sorry that didn't work.

I guess you will have to opt for the Broadcom AC card I posted, and if you just want the dual band N card, you can go for this one...

Broadcom BCM943228HMB 802.11abgn 2×2 Wi-Fi Adapter, Broadcom Bluetooth 4.0 Adapter

HP Part # 730668-001

You never did say if your PC has a Celeron or Pentium processor.

As I stated the other day, folks that tried an Intel 7260 wlan card in a notebook with a celeron or pentium processor...it doesn't work.

I have no idea why it doesn't.

An Intel 7260 AN worked just fine in my 350 G1 with the 4th gen core i3 when I replaced the stock broadcom card.

Re: Upgrade Wireless BCM43142 on HP Stream Mini 200-010

The HP Stream Mini has a Celeron processor. I upgraded  it to a 256GB SSD and 16GB Ram, so it really works well for streaming. Except the Broadcom seems to have issues with signal stability. It is nearly a year old and worked fine until I installed the gigabit internet. I will check the Broadcom that you suggest.  I should have gone back to you when I discovered the difference in the wifi card configuration ie. one mounting screw vs two mounting screws and connector difference.

Re: Upgrade Wireless BCM43142 on HP Stream Mini 200-010

The Broadcom card does have two wireless antennas connected to it, correct?

If it only has one, then I don't think a dual band card will work correctly with only 1 antenna present.
