Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I'm getting really poor performance (download) on my existing wifi card (intel 3160 ac) and believe that a hardware upgrade MAY prove to correct it. I've looked at all the software solutions (upgrade drivers, settings..etc) to no avail.  I've testing against my work laptop (side-by side speed test) and it kills it in the download numbers - so I'm hoping a hardware upgrade can fix it.

First question - good chance a hardware upgrade will help?

Second question (and where I need the most help on):  Can someone point to the latest card I could use (let say, on Amazon - Canada) or whatever model of pci express card I need that would be compatible with my laptop?

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi:

You can upgrade to this card, which has twice the throughput of the 3160:

Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 802.11 ac 2x2 WiFi + BT 4.0    HP Part # 710661-001

You can most likely find the card on eBay.  Find a seller that will ship to Canada.

Someone makes a HMC version of the AX200, but that is out of stock.

Sweet. Thanks for the clarification Paul.  I'm really hoping this will clear things up.

You're very welcome.

I have the 7260 in my HP 350 G1 that I had upgraded from the Broadcom dual band N card it originally came with.

Works great for me.

Now I am intrigued by that AX200 card.

I may buy it if the price is reasonable, and it comes back for sale.
