HP Pavilion 17-e123cl TouchSmart Notebook PC (ENERGY STAR)
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Whether connected to my router by WiFi or Ethernet, I am unable to attain the 500MB download speed from my internet provider. Not even close. (Under 100MB) Every other device in my home, phones, laptop and I-Pad have no problem. It has to be an issue with my HP Pavillion 17 laptop.

Its specs

           https://support.hp.com/gb-en/document/c04094871

It ONLY has

Network Card
10/100BASE-T Ethernet LAN (RJ-45 connector)
Wireless Connectivity
1x1 802.11b/g/n WLAN

They are slow network adapters

  1. Wired connection: Probably you have to replace its system board. I don't know its price but would be expensive
  2. Wifi connection: Your machine was built before 2015, due to the whitelist the chance to replace its wifi adapter to get a newer generation is very slim to none.

Options: using USB adapters

  1. Wired connection: You can use  https://www.amazon.com.au/Anker-Aluminum-Portable-Gigabit-Ethernet/dp/B00PC07T02    you will get 2 more USB-3 ports (they sell 4, 5, 7 ports too)
  2. Wifi connection: You can use  https://www.asus.com/au/networking-iot-servers/adapters/all-series/usb-ac53-nano/   there are many around from different bands and cheaper too

Regards.

The maximum throughput your notebook's Wi-Fi card can support is 72 MBPS.

So, if you are getting 40 - 60 MBPS that would be normal.

You can replace the Wi-Fi adapter your notebook has with this model which is dual band AC with Bluetooth.

Broadcom BCM4352 802.11ac 2x2 Wi-Fi + Bluetooth 4.0 combo   HP part # 724935-001.

The above card has a maximum throughput of 867 MBPS on the 5.0 GHz Wi-Fi band with an AC or AX router.

Below is the link to the service manual where you can find the Wi-Fi card removal and replacement procedure.

You can find the Broadcom card on eBay in used but tested and working condition.

Search by the HP part number, not the model of the Wi-Fi card.
