I am wanting to upgrade from the Realtek RTL8723DE 802.11b/g/n PCIe adapter to a dual band adapter. I am wondering if there is a product I can swap in. I have seen an intel 3168 with a bluetooth combo module on the parts list but I am not sure if it is compatible with my setup. Does anyone know if that would work?

Hi:

 

The Intel wifi card requires two antenna cables, and most likely you notebook only has one.

 

Notice the part number from the service manual for that card only has one antenna terminal to connect the antenna wire to.

 

Recommended wifi card upgrade continues below this picture...

 

 

So, this would be the only dual band card you can upgrade to where both the wifi and bluetooth work with one antenna cable...

 

Realtek RTL8821CE 802.11 ac 1x1 WiFi + Bluetooth 4.2 Combo Adapter (MU-MIMO supported) HP part # L17365-005.

 

The only place I have been able to find this model is on eBay.

The card has the same throughput as the RTL8723 on the 2.4 GHz wifi band, but on the 5.0 GHz wifi band with an AC router, it has a maximum throughput of 433 MBPS.

 

On a dual band wireless N router, it would have a maximum throughput of 150 MBPS on the 5.0 GHz wifi band.
