HP Pavilion Sleekbook 15-b002ee
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

I bought HP Pavilion Sleekbook 15 PC with serial number [Personal Information Removed] around 2014. Back then it was windows 7 installed in it. Currently, I am using Win 10 Edu 4 bit. For months or so my wifi adaptor is missing and I also tried HP support assistant but it doesn't show my OS. And I don't know which wifi adaptor to download and install. Currently, I am using it with an Ethernet cable. Any help would be really appreciated.

Note: I tried almost everything from resetting to going thru the services app. I just don't know which driver is compatible.

Thank You.

Something is wrong then, that I can't help you with.

I have given that method to dozens of forum members and it works all the time.

I never had anyone report an error where you can't install Windows.

The strange part is W10 works fine.

So, I suggest you live with W10 and either replace the internal wifi adapter with the part # I posted or buy a USB wifi adapter.

They make some real small ones now that hardly stick out of the USB port like the old ones used to.

Hello,

Firstly thank you for replying. I installed the driver, restarted my Notebook but for some reason, it still is not showing on the device manager. I tried to add it manually but it didn't work. Did I do something wrong or do I have to downgrade my OS?

Thank You again.

Hi, @Sechen

I see that Gold_Master gave you the Ralink Wifi driver for your notebook, probably from the serial number you had posted.

That model Wifi/Bluetooth adapter has been known to completely disappear from the device manager on the later builds of Windows 10.

There are no fixes that I know of except to:

1. Replace the Ralink wifi adapter with this model, which is an upgrade:

Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 802.11 ac 2x2 WiFi + BT 4.0    HP Part # 710661-001

You can find this model wifi card on eBay.  Search by the HP part number, not the model of the wifi adapter.

Purchase a USB Wifi adapter and use that with Windows 10.

3. Go back to Windows 8.1 and use the currently installed Ralink wifi adapter.

Below is the link to the service manual, where you can find the wifi adapter removal and replacement procedure.

If you want to go back to Windows 8.1 and don't know how, let me know because there is a trick you can use to reinstall W8.1 for free by using the W8 product key in your notebook's BIOS.

Hello,

Thank You for replying.

I tried installing Win 8.1 which I downloaded as an ISO file but the product key didn't work. And I thought my notebook came with inbuilt Win7 but it was Win 8. I dun know how to do it from BIOS. And I don't even have a restore point for it. I formatted my Notebook and installed Windows 10 coz of the same WI-FI issue but I do have Win 8 Product Key that I somehow managed to get from a command prompt.  I'd really appreciate it If you can guide me through how to go back to Win 8.1 with Win 8 Key.

Thank You again.

You're very welcome.

Here is how to install W8.1.

Since you have already made the installation media, boot from it and use this generic W8.1 product key...

This key is for the standard version of W8.1.

334NH-RXG76-64THK-C7CKG-D3VPT

If your notebook has a W8 Single Language key, use this generic key instead, but you will needed to have made the W8.1 single language installation media.

After you install W8.1, change the generic product key you entered to the W8 OEM key you have, and you should be all set.

You change the product key in the PC settings menu.

Hello,

I tried the standard version, It accepted the product key but the message popped up "Something happened, setup has failed to determine supported install choices".

Unfortunately, I don't know what that error means.

We need to determine exactly what version of Windows 8 the key you have is good for, and the only way I know of to do that would be to reinstall the regular W10 Home version from Microsoft.

Make the installation media from the link below.

Download Windows 10 (microsoft.com)

When it asks what version of W10 you want to install, select W10 Home.

When it asks for a product key, select the 'I don't have a product key' option.

Then after W10 installs, connect to the internet with your ethernet cable and install the free showkey plus app from the Microsoft store.

Get ShowKeyPlus - Microsoft Store

This app will give a full report of the version of Windows 8 the product key is good for.

This is an example of what you should see based on the showkey plus report from my PC.

The important info is on the last line...the version of W8.

Let me know what the last line of the showkey plus report has for your notebook.

ShowKeyPlus - Windows Product Key Information

Product Name: Windows 10 Pro

Hello,

I reinstalled Win 10 Home and did as your instructions and this is what I got.

OEM Edition: Win 8 RTM CoreSingleLanguage OEM:DM

Also, the installation media  I had was Win 8.1EnglishInternational. Currently, I am downloading the 8.1 SingleLanguage.

Thank You

OK, great.

So, what you need to do is to make a new bootable USB installer or DVD using the W8.1 Single Language 64 bit ISO file and then use this generic product key to install W8.1 SL.

Download Windows 8.1 Disc Image (ISO File) (microsoft.com)

Y9NXP-XT8MV-PT9TG-97CT3-9D6TC

Hopefully, W8.1 will install this time without giving you that error and you can then activate the installation with your W8 SL OEM product key.
