HP Spectre x360 13.5 inch 2-in-1 Laptop PC 14-ef2000 RCTO Base Model

I have installed Ubuntu 23.04 and it is working great!

Except when I lift up the laptop, wi-fi deactivates and then when I put it down on the table, wi-fi reactivates. I understand this is likely due to HID sensors built into the laptop, such as, gyro and accelerometer.

So I have blacklisted such modules from loading and situation has improved but not completely.

Is there a way to permanently disable these sensors whether in BIOS or otherwise?

Hi @gahisee,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The behavior you've described, where the Wi-Fi deactivates when you lift your HP Spectre x360 laptop and reactivates when you put it down, is not a standard feature of the laptop. It's possible that there is a hardware issue or a software setting causing this behavior.

Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue.

Check Power Settings:

  • Go to "Control Panel" > "Power Options" (or "Settings" > "System" > "Power & Sleep" on Windows 10 or 11).
  • Make sure that your power plan settings are not configured to disable the Wi-Fi adapter when the laptop is on battery power or when the lid is closed.

Update Wi-Fi Drivers:

  • Outdated or corrupted Wi-Fi drivers can cause connectivity issues. Visit HP's official website or use the HP Support Assistant to download and install the latest Wi-Fi drivers for your laptop.

Disable/Re-enable Wi-Fi:

  • Manually disable and re-enable the Wi-Fi adapter to see if that restores normal functionality.
    • Press "Windows + X" and select "Device Manager."
    • Expand the "Network adapters" section, right-click on your Wi-Fi adapter, and select "Disable." Then, right-click it again and choose "Enable."

Check for Physical Damage:

  • Examine the physical condition of your laptop, particularly the area around the Wi-Fi card and antenna connections. Physical damage could be causing intermittent connectivity problems.

Reset Network Settings:

  • You can reset network settings to their default configurations. This can often resolve connectivity issues.
    • Go to "Settings" > "Network & Internet" > "Status."
    • Under the "Network reset" section, click "Reset now" and follow the on-screen instructions.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
