HP Pavilion TouchSmart 15-b155
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have an issue where whenever I have WiFi turned on and connected the laptop would first disconnect and then freeze within 10 mins of opening it. I have been running windows 10 for about a year or so and never had any issues with it but then this problem started appearing within the past month. I tried reinstalling windows and I also tried updating the driver but it says it's up to date. I would be thankful if you could help me find a solution. I have an HP Pavilion TouchSmart 15-b155sx Sleekbook running windows 10 single language edition

Hey there! @Alice18, Thanks for stopping by HP forums!

I understand when the wireless is enabled on your PC the laptop keeps freezing.

Don't worry I'd like to help you out.

Did you make any software or hardware changes on your PC?

Please try updating the BIOS on your PC and check if it helps.

Link to update the BIOS.

Also, try the steps recommended below.

Press and hold the Windows button ( lower left corner )
Choose Device Manger
Click on the network adapter to expand the list
Right click on the adapter and choose properties
Click the power management tab
if "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" is checked please remove it and  press OK
Repeat this procedure for any additional network adapters listed.

Refer this article to further troubleshoot the wireless issue on your printer.

Let me know if this works!

Have a great day ahead! 🙂

I believe that the laptop updated before the issue started but it wasn't as frequent. Like it would happen every couple of days. But it kept happening more often that it made using the laptop almost impossible. I tried updating the BIOS and it didn't help. I also followed the steps provided but it didn't work either. Thanks a lot for your help.

@Alice18

It looks like you were interacting with @A4Apollo, but he is out for the day & I'll be glad to help you out,

I'm the Riddle_Decipher & I'm at your service.

If you feel that the WiFi is causing your computer to freeze, did you disconnect from the network and check if it freezes on safe mode (Click here to access) or with a wired internet?

While you respond to that, I recommend you run an extensive system test to identify if this either a hardware or a software issue: Click here for details.

Let me know how that works out, keep me in the loop and Good luck! 😉

It runs fine on a wired connection from the same modem that I connect the wifi on. The freezing only occurs when wifi is connected. I will run an extensive test and tell you how it goes.

It just finished the test and it says that all the components passed except for the battery it said that it was not inserted although it is. But other than that all was good.

@Alice18

Thank you for responding,

It's great to have you back 😉

If the test on the battery failed or didn't go through, that probably the cause of our concerns,

I recommend you Contact HP to have it replaced:

Okay, But what about the wifi issue? The issue is still there although there seems to be no issue with the hardware. So what could be the cause?

Hi @Alice18

I am the The_Fossette. It looks like you were interacting with @Riddle_Decipher, but he is out of the office today so I'll take over from here.

I recommend you to uninstall the wireless driver from device manager and restart the computer. Once the computer is restarted the driver will be installed automatically and test if it resolves the issue.

Here is how it is done.

  1. Open the Device Manager: ...
  2. Double-click Network Adapters to expand the section.
  3. Right-click the Wireless Adapter and select Properties.
  4. Click Driver tab.
  5. Click Uninstall.
  6. Check Delete the driver software for this device and click OK.

Let me know how it goes.

Take care!

Cheers!
