Wifi Router Connectivity Issue

Hi @Sekm,

Thanks for stopping by the HP Support Forums! 🙂 Good day. Hope you are doing well. 🙂 I understand clearly that you have issues with the computer not detecting the wireless router. It will be a genuine pleasure to assist you here. 🙂

Awesome job on diagnosing the issue correctly and performing some very smart research and troubleshooting before posting your question on HP forums. Kudos to you on that score.:)  It is a privilege to work with tech-savvy and technically competent customers like you and we greatly value your business with HP. It is a genuine pleasure to assist you and share this platform with you. 🙂

First off, we need to diagnose correctly if the issue is hardware or software related.

For better clarity and to assist you better, I would require more information regarding this.

  • When did the issue first begin?
  • Did any software or windows update cause this to happen?
  • Have you tried changing the router broadcasting channels?

It could also be an issue with the wifi card of the computer and it may need to be replaced. If it is a recent occurrence, you could try a system restore to an earlier time before the issue started from this link: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01835735 Please follow the option “Restoring Windows 7 to a previous point”

Please check these links out for further assistance. If any of these links fix the issue for you, then please ignore the other links. Please visit these links one at a time and perform all the steps mentioned.

Link 1 Common fixes for wireless connectivity issues: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Wireless-and-Networking/Common-fixes-for-wireless-connectivity...

Link 2  “HP PCs - Troubleshooting Your Wireless Network and Internet Connection (Windows 7)”: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c02543015

Link 3  “ HP PCs - Troubleshooting Wireless Network and Internet” : http://hp.dezide.com/ts/start.jsp?guide=wirelessconnection.net&section=social

If none of these links fix the issue, then please check with a wired Ethernet connection and see if it works. If it does please update the bios, chipset and wifi drivers from this link: http://hpcom/drivers

As a last resort, you could try  a system recovery to original factory settings after backing up all your data. Link for recovery: http://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c01867418

Please follow the steps “Recovery from the Windows 7 desktop screen” from the link.

If none of these work, then the issue could be with the wifi card and it needs to be replaced. If not, you could use a wireless USB dongle to communicate with the router as a workaround also. It is cost effective.

Hope this helps. Let me know how this goes. I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great. Please reach out for any issues and I'll be there to assist you .:)
