HP Spectre x360 Laptop -15-eb0250nd
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

A few days ago the wifi on my near-new HP laptop stopped working. As far as the computer is concerned there is no wifi card available. I went through the HP Virtual Support system, and did all of the recommended steps:

1. Reboot

2. Manually connect to wireless network (not possible since no wifi exists)

3. Uninistall/reinstall wireless adapter using Device Manager (note that wifi card is unable to start, as reported here in several previous posts - reinstalling it doesn't help, neither does updating the driver to the very latest from HP or Intel).

4. Manually reset network settings using command prompt (using netsh commands as per HP instructions)

5. Refresh the BIOS

At this point the wifi card starts to work again, but only for an hour or so, then it stops and will not start again. If I refresh the BIOS again it will work for a while, but stops again - the wifi card is simply unstable. Note that steps 1-4 do not yield results - only step 5.

The wifi network is good - we have 4 other computers using it without issues.

Does anyone have any more ideas? This sort of thing should not happen on a near-new (Oct 2020) laptop, which fortunately is still under warranty... very sub-standard and not what I expect of a company like HP. From what I see in this forum I am not the only one with such problems...

Thanks in advance

Jon

@JonTea

I reviewed your post and I understand that you are facing issues with the wireless connection.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

I recommend you update the BIOS from the below link and check whether the issue is resolved.

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp105501-106000/sp105979.exe

If you continue facing the issue, then follow the below steps and test.

Powercycle the network:

1. Shut down your notebook.

2. Unplug the power to your router.

3. Unplug the power to your modem.

4. Wait at least 45 seconds.

5. Plug in the modem, and wait for it to come back online.

6. Plug in the router, and wait for it to come back online.

7. Turn on your notebook, and test your connection.

Disable the Power Off option for the adapter:

1. Open Device Manager. (Win Key+R > type devmgmt.msc > OK)

2. Expand the Network adapters.

3. Right click on the Ethernet/Wireless Adapter and click Properties.

4. Click the Power Management tab.

5. Remove the check mark beside Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.

6. Click OK.

7. Test.

Reset the TCP/IP settings on your PC:

1. Go to your start screen/menu and type CMD.

2. Right click on the command prompt icon and chose Run as administrator.

3. In the window that opens type "netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt" without quotes, and press enter.

4. Restart your PC and test.

It may also help to reset the winsock catalogue:

1. Go to your start screen/menu and type CMD.

2. Right click on the command prompt icon and chose Run as administrator.

3. In the window that opens type "netsh winsock reset" without quotes, and press enter.

4. Restart your PC and test.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

@The_Fossette, thanks for your reponse.

I tried all of these things, plus went through the issues with HP Telephone support. Finally I updated the bios and did a clean reinstall of the latest version of Windows 10, without any success. Both the wifi and bluetooth cards remained  unresponsive.

The laptop has now been sent to the European HP Service Centre in Hungary for repairs under warranty.

If I could invoice HP for my time it would amount to many 1000's of Euros. I've now bought a Dell mobile workstation so as to avoid these issues in future.

I am sorry for the inconvience.

I am positive that once you receive the computer back from repair you should not face any issues.
