I have a
Realtek RTL8188CE 802.11b/g/n WiFi Adapter
HP Pavilion dv6t-6c00 CTO Quad Edition Entertainment Notebook PC
Running Windows 7 - 64-bit
I am trying to stay connected to the company wifi. This is the only laptop that has this problem. All the Dell's work fine and all the Mac books work fine. Even guests logging into the system have no problem with an odd assortment of laptops, none of them HP. I wonder why?. The built in Wifi does not work worth a darn. I have been able to manually turn it off and plug in a cisco usb wifi adapter and connect and stay connected all day long. Why wont my build in wifi stay connected. I have downloaded who knows how many different drivers trying to make this thing work. I hate having the USB key sticking out when the laptop when I should have good working wifi connection built in. I have downloaded the HP assistant and it says the drivers are up to date. What am I missing other than HP put a sucky wifi card in my new 1800 dollar laptop?

I read on some thread somewhere about this issue and I can't find it. I think it was in reference to the Realtek adapter.
The person said to go into the advanced settings (click on the device in the device manager >advanced tab) and change one of the listed settings from b/g/n to b/g.
If there is no such setting, try changing the router's broadcast channel to 1 or 11 and see if that helps. Maybe you are getting interference on the channel you are using and that particular card is sensitive to it.

Hi:
See if installing this driver directly from Realtek works (First one listed).

Paul, This was one of the drivers I have tried. I went a head and downloaded it again an applied this driver and it still connects very briefly and then I lose internet connectivity. The signal stregnth is excelent since I sit 20 feet from the hotspot. The type of network is a WPA2-PSK Radio 802.11n. Any other idea?

Thanks, that seems to have done the trick. It now stays connected although I do not get n speed out of it. It seems HP needs to fix this or swap out the crap for something that works as advertised. Not your fault.
Just a re-cap. Not an option to switch the channel but the tip to change in the device manager/properties/advanced/wireless mode from b/g/n to b/g seems to have stabilized the connection and I stay connected now.

You're very welcome.
OK, so now I know it was the Realtek NIC where changing that setting works, and yes, it is unfortunate that you have to resort to that to get it fixed.
I would visit the Realtek site from time to time, and try any newer driver releases they might have.
Best regards,
Paul
