HP Office Jet 5740 e all in one
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I purchased a new HP Laptop Windows 10.  My existing HP Officejet 5740 e all in one is connected currently to the wireless router.  My laptop accepted the network password and connected wirelessly just fine.  But when entering the network password to connect the laptop to the printer, the laptop will not accept the network password.  What do I do?

Welcome to HP Forums,

This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips,
Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out 🙂

I see that your experiencing issue with a wireless password,

I believe you are trying to connect to the wi-fi direct network of the printer and it's asking for the wi-fi direct password.

Try the default password as 12345678.

If it doesn't work then provide the below details:

  • What's the Wi-Fi light status on the Printer(Blinking or Steady)?
  • Could you share the screen where it's asking for the password?

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
