Wireless Adapter Card Compatibility

HP Recommended
15-af152nr / P1B08UA
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I cannot find the compatibility requirements or service manual anywhere online to update my wireless adapter network card in an HP 15-af152nr / P1B08UA.  My current adapter is failing and I want to install a new one.  It currently has: Broadcom BCM43142 802.11 bgn Wi-Fi M.2 Adapter.  I am looking for compatibility requirements, so I may buy a new adapter to upgrade.  Preferably, dual-band capabilities.  Can anyone please provide what the minimum compatibility specifications are for this machine?

Hi:

That model may be one where there is a BIOS whitelist that prevents the installation of any wifi adapter that was not the original Broadcom one that came with your notebook.

Your notebook only has one antenna cable connected to the Broadcom card.

If you want to risk a few bucks on a possible dual band card to upgrade to, this would be the only one that has any chance of working.

Realtek RTL8821CE 802.11 ac 1x1 WiFi + Bluetooth 4.2 Combo Adapter (MU-MIMO supported) HP part # L17365-005.

You can find this model on eBay.

The card has the same throughput as the Broadcom card on the 2.4 GHz wifi band, but on the 5.0 GHz wifi band with an AC router, it has a maximum throughput of 433 MBPS.

Here is the link to the service manual for your notebook, where you can find the wifi card removal and replacement procedure.

If you decide to give it a try, please post back and let us know if it worked or not.

It was essentially PnP.  I didn't have to do anything additional or troubleshoot to get it functional.  Message happily being sent over 5GHz band.  Thanks, again!

Anytime.

Glad to have been of assistance, and thanks for letting us know the RTL8821CE wifi adapter works in the 15-af### model series.
