HP Pavilion dv6-6c40us
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I just reinstalled a fresh version of Windows 7 and am having issues with the Wireless LAN/Bluetooth drivers. When I go to install them, they extract correctly and I get a message that the installshield is loading but then nothing happens. I have updated the BIOS, card reader, LAN, video drivers without issue but no wireless LAN or Bluetooth driver will install. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi:

The parts list for your notebook indicates that it comes with a Broadcom 4313GN 802.11b/g/n 1x1 WiFi and 20702 Bluetooth 4.0 combination adapter.

So, you would need this wifi driver...

This package contains drivers for the supported Broadcom Wireless LAN Adapters in the supported notebook/laptop models and operating systems.

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp57501-58000/sp57965.exe

...and this bluetooth driver, which is not listed on your notebook's support page.

This package contains the Broadcom Bluetooth driver and software for supported models that are running a supported operating system. Broadcom Bluetooth 4.0 Driver is required to enable Broadcom Bluetooth 4.0 devices and is compatible with Broadcom Bluetooth 3.0 and earlier versions.

Thank you for the reply but those drivers did the same thing, extracted and then nothing.

Thanks for the response Paul! I was hoping you would reply as I looked at other threads you had responded to in the past. Currently downloading the drivers you recommended. Will post back soon.

Thank you very much! It worked. How would I know in the future that the drivers listed on the HP support page are not the ones I need?

You're very welcome.

Unfortunately, there are a few model notebooks where HP doesn't have all the right drivers listed.

For example, aren't you missing the smbus and usb controller drivers too?

Those aren't on the support pages either.

If you are, then you need to install the amd chipset drivers and restart the PC.

You want the first file listed on the webpage...

@Paul_Tikkanen @Jarpee

Isn't the Broadcom driver the same one that is listed on the Support page? I realize the BT isn't but a little confused why Wireless didn't work and then later it did. That is why I jumped to assumption it must be Realtek since none of those drivers are on support page.

Yes Cheryl, that is the same driver.

I just assumed that Jarpee went for the Ralink one.

But you are right.  I would have bet a week's pay that it was the Realtek RTL8188CE driver that was missing, as that is the one that is not listed on any of the dv6-6xxx support pages.

But I wanted confirmation from the parts list, which is more often right than wrong, as to which wifi card that dv6 model has.

I didn't even see that you had replied until after I posted the answer.

Paul, I think we were actaully replying about the same time-as soon as I posted I saw in the sidebar that you were Replying.

As for the Realtek-I had looked at HP Parts surfer and the Realtek was the only one offered for his model. Guess the MSG is more reliable.
