how to find the download speed available

Pavilion g7-1070us
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

My service provider gives download speed of 200 mbps, I can only get 85 mbps wireless or wired.  How can I find if the laptop is the prolem?

Hello;

Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!

That speed rating from your ISP is only the theoretical MAXIMUM speed you can obtain with their service.  It is NOT a rating of the average speed you will obtain.

If you want to see the actual speed you will get, then do the following:

1) connect to your network using a cable, not using WiFi

2) Go to this site:  http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/

3) Choose a location near you

4) Run the test

For example, I pay for 350mb/s and actually get a max of around 342Mb/s (download), 34Mb/s (upload).

I understand about how actual speed will not always the same as the ISP's offered speed.  But I ran the test you suggested anyway and still got the same results.  I'm not sure I was clear in my question, I am trying to find the download mbps that my computer is able to process.
