Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Product name  G6Q75UA#ABA    The problem is...Keep losing wi fi signal.   Sometimes running HP diagnostics restores the signal, if not, sometimes restarting the laptop restores it.  Sometimes resetting the router restores it.  HP diagnostics shows a failure code (see above) related to the hard drive.  Short of replacing the hard drive, (sounds expensive) I'm looking for a possible fix that a novice can do.  Any help on this is greatly appreciated.

You are asking for something that is outside of the issue.

If the hard drive is failing, nothing you do to the Wireless or the Operating System is going to fix the problem.

Once the drive fails, you won't be able to access the data on your computer.

If you have not done so, please consider making backups of all your critical data - that is, anything you do not want to lose.  Back up the data to a USB stick, to a remote disk, even to the Cloud - "somewhere" - anywhere except the soon to be broken computer.

If you have backups, then replacing the drive is not terribly expensive, though the actual cost can vary and what you consider expensive might certainly be different from the opinion of someone else.

You also need to decide whether the cost of repair is worth the value of the computer.  For example, the product was introduced in mid-2014:  the computer is likely at least five years old.

After you have backups, everything will be easier to decide.

For example, you can run UEFI diagnostics on the hardware - although the Diagnostic results rarely "get it wrong", it is possible there is something else OR something in addition to the failing drive that is causing problems.

Testing for Hardware Failures

If you live in an area where you can do so, take the computer to a local licensed computer technician and ask for help, including the cost of repair.

If you would like to ask HP about repair options, please submit a case - explain that you are willing to pay for repairs and ask for options.

From HP > CAUTION

Recently, HP has seen an increased number of third-party support websites selling HP driver downloads or diagnostic tools. Many of these websites use the HP trademark symbol and claim to be official HP distributors.

If your product supports your operating system, HP offers your driver and software at no additional cost through the HP website.

Use caution when dealing with any website that asks you to pay for HP driver downloads or tools that claim to diagnose your HP products. These websites might not be affiliated with HP in any way.

Do not install BIOS updates from a motherboard manufacturer's website. Only install BIOS updates from HP. Installing BIOS updates from the motherboard manufacturer can prevent the computer from accepting an HP system recovery. This could result in a loss of data.

If you would like to consider repairing the computer yourself, take a look at the Service Guide to find part numbers and the replacement procedure.

Thank you Dragon-Fur for the further info.  The maint. and service manual w/part #'s and instructions are quite inspiring.  I might even attempt the R&R of the hard drive disk myself.  Can you suggest a proper hard drive.  The part #'s shown do not exactly correspond to my unit.  (perhaps they do,  I'm just not sure)  Basic and inexpensive would suffice.  Thanks again D-F   Regards  JM
