I think an update took this away.  When I first set up the modem I had both 2.5 and 5.0.

It does not have a dual band wifi adapter, which is why your notebook can't see or connect to 5.0 GHz wifi networks.

It is a hardware limitation, not a software one.

Anytime you see a wireless N card with a suffix that ends in bgn, that means it is a single band wifi adapter.

Dual band wifi N adapters have suffixes that end in abgn or agn.

Call me crazy but I swear when I first hooked up the modem I had both 2.5 and 5.0 available.  I could see both on my laptop.   My pc had two login's one for 2.5 and one for 5.0.  I think a Microsoft update or updating the driver undid it.  Under network adapters it shows realteck RTL8723DE 802.11/b/g/n PCLe adapter

I won't call you crazy, but I will say that you are mistaken.

The card absolutely never could connect to any 5.0 GHz wifi band.

You would have to replace the wifi adapter with a dual band card in order to get dual band wifi capability.

Thank you for your help, I really appreciate it.  I will look into getting a new wifi adapter card for the pc.

If you plan on replacing the internal card, there is only one model you can install where both the wifi and Bluetooth work with the one antenna cable your notebook comes with, and that is this one...

The card has been on back order from HP for eons now, but you can find one for sale on eBay.

It will work exactly the same as the Realtek wifi card you have in there now on the 2.4 GHz wifi band (72 MBPS max throughput), and on the 5.0 GHz wifi band it will have a maximum throughput of 433 MBPS with an AC router, and 150 MBPS with a dual band N router.
