I was using my laptop as normal last night when it needed an windows update. It also needed an update for the driver for the network card. I updated and my laptop now cannot connect to the intenet through wifi or ethernet connection which has made looking for a solution pretty difficult. I have tried downloading the drivers for the network card however the installation wizard never finishes and just hangs on the install screen with it doing nothing in task manager.

Its the Realtek PCie FE Family controller and the Realtek RTL8723BE 802.11 bgn WiFi adapter

Thanks in advance

@DAVE174,

Thanks for reaching out to the community. A very good day to you. I reviewed the post regarding issues the internet after a Windows and driver update. I will be glad to assist you and let’s get right to it. Superb analysis and great observations made. It is amply appreciated.

Let me gather some information for better clarity to assist you correctly:

  • Did you try performing a system restore to an earlier time before this occurred?

I will be providing a roadmap with some troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue. Let us try these steps:

Perform a system restore to an earlier time from this link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03327545 (HP PCs - Using Microsoft System Restore (Windows 10, 😎

Follow directions from any one of these steps:

  • Restore your computer when Windows starts normally
  • Restore your computer when Windows cannot start normally

Now check if the issue gets fixed.

If it continues, then perform these steps:

  • Right-Click on start button> click device manager> expand Network adapters>then select the network drivers that are listed and right-click on it and uninstall the drivers.

Then restart the computer and check if you can go online.

If the issue persists, then perform these steps:

) Push the Windows Key and the letter “R” at the same time.

2) In the Run command box type “services.msc” and hit enter or click on OK.

3) In this window, click the Name column header (where it says “Name”) to sort by the service name.

4) Scroll down to find WLAN AutoConfig service. Stop the service first. Then restart it and make sure that it runs automatically.

5) Make sure that dependency services are also stopped and restarted.

Now check if it gets fixed.

If it continues, then perform these steps:

Reset the TCP/IP settings on your PC:
1. Go to your start screen/menu and type CMD.
2. Right click on the command prompt icon and chose Run as administrator.
3. In the window that opens type "
netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt" without quotes, and press enter.
4. Restart your PC and test.

It may also help to reset the
winsock catalogue:
1. Go to your start screen/menu and type CMD.
2. Right click on the command prompt icon and chose Run as administrator.
3. In the window that opens type "
netsh winsock
reset" without quotes, and press enter.
4. Restart your PC and test.

This should do the trick for you.

If the issue continues, then perform all the relevant steps from this link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04649175 (HP PCs - Troubleshooting Wireless Network and Internet (Windows 10)

This should do the trick for you.

If the issue continues, backup your data and perform a Microsoft-Push Button reset of Windows 10 by following instructions from this link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c04742289

There is an associated YouTube video on how to do it. This should nail it for you.

Good luck and keep me posted about the developments. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution as it will help several others with the same issue and give the post a Kudos for my efforts to help. Thank you and have a great week ahead. 🙂

Im sorry to say that none of this worked. I occasionally get an critical error when trying to sort the network issue but I can't search the error as it is cut off by the bottom of the screen. I am going to try a clean install of windows

Okay so I have tried reinstalling windows to my SSD from a usb boot drive and now have it installed and running on my ssd. However the BIOS doesnt recognise it as a boot drive and i always get an error when starting before going through the bios and starting the computer nomally. It then asks for which version of windows to load. (Windows 10 version7 or Version 3) and then lets me carry on to use windows normally on my laptop running off of the SSD. I'd really like my bios to detect the ssd as a boot drive to avoid the errors when starting the laptop. Is there any way I can do this?

Thanks in advance

Okay so sadly that didn't work. This is already the default os. This is the process I go through to start my notebook.

1. I turn it on and i'm met by this screen

This is the first screen that appears. I then press escThis is the first screen that appears. I then press esc

2. The next screen i'm taken to is this one

I then enter BIOS setupI then enter BIOS setup

3.Then i navigate through the bios to the boot manager

The only boot drive available in my BIOS is my HDD however this does not have windows installed .The only boot drive available in my BIOS is my HDD however this does not have windows installed .

After this I exit the Bios and windows boots normally using the ssd. I'd really like windows to recognise my ssd as the boot drive from the begining and this is the evidence of the HDD.

This is file explorer with 'New Volume' Being the HDD being detected in the BIOS and the SSD is next to it as C drive on the left. This is file explorer with 'New Volume' Being the HDD being detected in the BIOS and the SSD is next to it as C drive on the left.

Any ideas on how to set my computer to boot using "Main Drive" and avoid this whole process?

Thanks again (And sorry about the picture qualties. I'm not a photo editing expert and im in a rush 🙂 )

Thanks for keeping me posted

May I know from where did you get the USB drive to reload the Windows? Was it the Recovery Media you created or ordered from HP?

Could you please send me a picture of the message where you are prompted to select the Windows version before booting up?

Thanks.

Recovery 0xC000000E suggests there is a problem with the Boot Configuration Data (BCD) that the system is attempting to boot from. I suspect the BCD is pointing to the HDD wherease the operating system is on the SSD.

Have you moved Windows from the HDD to the SSD without reinstalling it - or have you recently installed a HDD that was previously used in another system?

HP Recommended

I created the media recovery drive myself. And I formated the HDD to try and make the BIOS avoid looking at the HDD for an operating system. So the only operating system i have now is windows 10 on the SSD which works fine. I just get the first two screens and pressing enter on the second loads the OS.
