“no connections are available” but other devices still connect

HP Recommended
pavilion 11 x360
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

hi! hope someone can help me figure this out. when i try to connect to wifi it say “no connections are available” and when i run troubleshooting it says i need to plug in an ethernet cable which i’ve never needed before. all my other devices are still connected. i haven’t moved the laptop from the location it’s always been, and i haven’t downloaded or deleted anything recently, or done anything i don’t normally do.

i googled the most common fixes but no luck. i’ve already checked to make sure i’m not on airplane mode. i’ve tried resetting the router, and restarting the laptop. and i’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling the network adapter. please advise.

@whathandsdo, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Let us run a test on the wireless card:

  1. Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.
  2. Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second. When the menu appears, press the F2 key.
  3. Perform Component Test > Network. Share the result on your next post.
  4. For more info on running hardware testes, refer to Testing for Hardware Failures

Install updates using HP Support Assistant

  1. In the search box, type and open HP Support Assistant.
  2. Check for updates.
  3. If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.

Note: If you do not have HP Support Assistant installed, Click here to download the same.

Also, check for any pending windows update. Reboot the computer.

If the issue persists, perform the steps mentioned in this document - Troubleshooting Wireless Network and Internet
