Hello, I am having an issue with the USB port on my notebook, which is an HP Pavilion Laptop 15-eh1505la. I have tried everything, uninstalled the Universal Serial Bus controllers, and then restarted the PC. However, it did not work. I also tried updating the firmware, but that did not work either. I checked that it was not a power issue, but that did not work either. I tried the USB cable on another notebook and it worked correctly, recognizing the device. So it's not a problem with the USB cable.

Hi @5CD3023GNW,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP Pavilion Laptop 15-eh1505la is not recognizing devices through the USB port. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

Check if the USB port is detected in BIOS
• Restart the notebook and press F10 to enter BIOS.
• Under System Information or Configuration, confirm the USB ports are listed.

Perform a complete power reset
• Shut down the notebook and disconnect the charger.
• Hold the power button for 15 seconds, reconnect power, and start the device again.

Test with a different USB device
• Try a simple device like a pen drive or mouse.
• If none of the devices respond, it points to the port itself.

Run the HP Hardware Diagnostics
• Restart the notebook and press ESC → F2 for Diagnostics.
• Run the Component Test → USB to see if the port passes or fails.

Check Windows Power Management settings
• Go to Device Manager → Universal Serial Bus controllers.
• Open each USB Root Hub and disable “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.”

Check for Windows updates or optional drivers
• Open Settings → Windows Update → Check for updates.
• Install any optional driver updates that appear for chipset or USB controllers.

Update the chipset drivers from HP
• Visit the HP Support page for your exact model.
• Download and install the latest AMD/Intel chipset drivers and USB controller drivers.

Inspect the USB port physically
• Check for looseness, damage, or bent pins inside the port.
• A damaged port can cause partial or no recognition.

Test in Safe Mode
• Boot into Safe Mode and connect the USB device.
• If it works there, the issue may be caused by third-party software or drivers.

I hope this helps.
