Hey, I have 100/100 Mbps fiber optic service on my phone and iPad but I can't get any faster than 40 Mbps on my laptop. I reset the software and got rid of most apps, checked for all updates, and keep tearing my hair out. Is this as g, even with ethernet. Is this as good as it gets?

Your machine is very old. Its specs
https://support.hp.com/rs-en/document/c03737010
It ONLY has
- WLAN: 10/100BASE-T Ethernet LAN (RJ-45 connector)
- Wifi: 1x1 802.11b/g/n WLAN
BOTH of them are slow. It is more than 12 years old now therefore upgrading internal wifi adapter to newer adapter is NOT supported. The following adapter (or similar) may help

Regards.
