I recently lent my fully functioning hp laptop to someone and got it back and the battery won't charge and needs to be replaced. It could be possible that they switched my battery with an older broken one, is there a way I can find out if they actually did this by like a number or code.

Hello,

Batteries have product number on them. I checked my HP devices and could not find a serial number for the batteries. These product numbers can be used to identify the batteries and connect to certain models. This could be used as a basic identification but not a concrete identification as product numbers (PN) are not as unique as serial numbers (SN).

However, even if you had an unique identificator (like SN), you would need to also have this number pictured, written before you gave the PC to the other person so that you can compare it now. HP does not keep such a database and cannot help you identify the uniqueness of your battery.

Ok thanks for the facts and the info and I didn't ask for your opinion on my (PC) sharing skills. Thanks.
