Battery will not charge. Laptop only turns on with charger plugged in.

Product: HP 15 NOTEBOOK PC

My battery will not charge.  The laptop will only turn on if it is plugged in with the charger.  Does this mean that I need a new battery?

Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:

If that shows your battery as bad, then yes you need to replace it.

 

I did this recently on an old HP laptop, so I read the product number printed on the battery, Googled for online battery stores that carried it, ordered one (for $25), and had it within 3 days.  I could have had it overnight if I was willing to pay the shipping -- but the laptop was running OK on the AC cord, so I could wait a few days.
