CAN'T GET HP STREAM LAPTOP TO BOOT UP

HP Recommended
HP STREAM PRO 11" LAPTOP
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

Bought directly from HP Canada web site, and it worked perfectly until yesterday.

Here's what currently happens when I open the lid and press down on the lit-up "open" button:

Even when fully charged  now (and with power adaptor cable plugged into an electrical socket), the HP "booting-up" icon appears onscreen, but spins endlessly but never pops up the window in which I normally enter the password I chose.

Is there any way to "force" a total reboot -- for example, a keystroke combination or hidded "reset" button?

Any help with this problem would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Hello,

Try the re-boot again and see if you can bring up the HP PC Hardware Disgnostics UEFI utility (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface).

1) Turn on or restart the computer, quickly press "esc" and press "F2".

2) When the diagnostics tool opens, use the keyboard keys to select the type of diagnostic test you want to run and follow the on-screen instructions

3) If you need to stop a diagnostic test press "esc"

(Step-by-Step instructions from the HP Stream 11 Pro Notebook PC Maintenance and Service Guide - Page 46)
