HP Envy 15 Notebook PC
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

The top cover (outside case) has a 2" crack in it near the hinge and appears to slowly be getting bigger. Can this cover be replaced fairly easily? Is this something a user can do or do I need to take it in to a skilled technician?

Need your full model number to get the correct part number. However, I will tell you that odds are you have more problems than you think. Sounds like the hinge has seized up and is starting to tear up the surrounding plastic.

Replacing a top cover does require extensive disassembly but we can get you a Manual for it. Also big plastic pieces on newer laptops tend not to be cheap. As I said you may also need new hinges and you might even also need a new lower chassis as well. Depends on the damage.
