Because of the slightly different form factor between an SSD (Solid State Drive) and a regular HD I cannot put an SSD into the second HDD bay on my 8760w Elitebook.

It looks like a piece of plastic is placed in the bay to prevent an SSD drive from being installed. I can install a regular HDD without any fit problems.

Does anyone know if it is possible to install a 2nd SSD?

Thanks,

-jc

Hi,

Yes you can, you need something like this:

There are few videos but I can not paste the links for you because I'm using my work laptop now.  Just Google "Adding SSD to Elitebook 8760w"

Good luck

I have a caddy. If I put in an HDD it fits. If I put it an SSD it doesn't.

As i discovered, the SSD has a slightly different form factor.

Some users have modified the plastic inside the computer to accomodate the SSD. I'm seeing if there is an alternative to cutting chunks out of my new laptop.

I just fixed it--with the careful use of an Extro-blade.

The SSD now fits.

What part did you fix / what part needed fixing for the SSD?

An SSD has a slightly different form factor than an HDD. In the Elitebook 8760w, HP has placed a piece of plastic in such a way that a second SSD cannot be added. (If you have the computer customize by HP they will add one for $750 --yikes).

Somehow you need to remove this plastic. You can take apart the entire computer, which some have done, or  carefully cut out the black plastic. If you cut it out, be extra careful not to cut any of the wires. Slow and steady.

Try Samsung 830 SSD or any other 7mm SSD

I soved it by moving the existing harddrive to the free bay, where it fits despite the plastic "blocker", and putting the SSD in the freed harddrive bay. Ta-daaa, a $750 worth trick!
When the laptop boots, press ESC and go into the boot device menu and select .. hmm ... "extra harddrive" or what it says, to boot on the old harddisk.
