Hello World,
I updated my wireless router from WEP to WPA2 and cannot figure out how to update the SSID on the OfficeJet Pro 8100. I've updated my laptop, TVs, game systems, thermostat etc to the new SSID and password.
I do not have the installation CD. I do have the USB cable. I'm running HP Utility 5.19.2.
When connect printer to computer with USB, I enter the HP Utility and click on "Network Settings" the program retreives information and provides the following error msg:
"Network Settings task is not currently available. Please make sure that device is connected to a network."
Well I know it's not connected to the network, I just need the screen to enter the new SSID and password.
Other information that may be useful:
OS: OSX Version 10.9.1
Model: Officejet Pro 8100 N811a
Service ID: 23267
FW Version: TSP1FN1148IR
Driver Version: HP Inkjet 3 Driver 3.3.3
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

The way I finally got it to work on a Mac running 10.9:
1. Connected via USB to a Mac
2. System Preferences > Print & Fax > Look for the Printer in the List on the Left > Use the + button to add the printer if it's not there
3. Run an ethernet cable from the printer to the same Mac
4. With the printer selected in system preferences, Click Options & Supplies
5. Click the Utility tab at the top
6. Click the Open Printer Utility button
7. All Settings > Network Settings > Bonjour Settings
8. Enable Bonjour if it isn't enabled, click the URL next to Access your device at URL:
9. At the web page for that URL, click the Network Tab
10. Click Wireless Setup Wizard, hit OK, ignore SSL Warnings, enter your printer admin password if you set one
11. Run through the wireless setup wizard

I had a similar problem. I had to replace my Verizon Router in December 2013. Prior to replacing, I could run wirelessly to the printer. In December 2013, I spent hours on the phone with people from Verizon, Apple, and finally, from HP. After wasting about 6 hours over a 2-3 day period, the HP technician checked and said that HP was to have a new driver to address this issue by the first week of January 2014. It is still not out...WHY NOT? I can run the printer with either a USB or an Ethernet cable. NOT wirelessly. This is frustrating. This is why I bought the printer. The CD does not work, as it is incompatible with OS 10.9! H-E-L-P!!!

Hi FrustratedBrew,
I have read your post and understand you are not able to connect your HP Officejet Pro 8100 ePrinter to your network.
I would install and run the HP Printer Install Wizard for Windows. It will help you install the printer to be wireless.
Hope this helps.
Thanks.

Hi Leej13,
If you have installed the printer already, From System Preferences, open Print and Fax or Print and Scan panel. If you see the printer listed Click remove printer- button. It will ask for confirmation of deleting the printer.
Once that is done you need to go to the applications find the HP 8100 folder click on HP installer. Follow the instructions. You will have to have a USB cable ready for when it asks.
If you did not install the software here is a link to the install for Mac 10.9.
Hope this helps.
Thanks.

Hi Mrs. Tenter,
I'm having the same issue. I don't think that you are understanding it correctly though...
You say that “Once that is done you need to go to the applications find the HP 8100 folder click on HP installer.” Unfortunately no such folder exists. The current HP software, as installed by Apple Software Update does not add any /Applications entries.
Attempting to follow the instructions at “If you did not install the software here is a link to the install for Mac 10.9.” instead we get to the following, in step 2 at that page: “Make sure that the printer is connected to the wired or wireless network” and this is the problem! How do we connect the printer to a wireless network? (for me at least, wired networking is not really an option due to the location of the printer, also, I haven't had any CAT5 cable lying around for about 5 years now!)
I've noticed steps like this on a couple of different support pages on the HP site, they basically get to the difficult part of the set up and then say “make sure you've already done the hard stuff”, as you can imagine this is less than useful. Also, many of the instructions given (such as those here) are simply out of date given the current software.
Here's what I (and presumable the other posters) would like to resolve this issue: step by step instructions on connecting the printer to a wireless network, assuming no special hardware support on the router. So you'd need to provide instructions on how to select the WIFI SSID as well as input the security credentials. I'd be happy for this to happen over a USB connection and am comfortable using the terminal to issue commands to the printer should that be necessary. I feel that your support site should always provide the manual steps needed to get your products to a functional state, for time like this when the fancy software installers fail to work and/or become outdated.
Please let me know if I can provide any further information.
