Comp Flashes HP logo, black screen, won't start windows! Any help appreciated!

HP Recommended
Pavilion dv7
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

The fan is whirring, it sounds like it reeeeally wants to start, but it just keeps flashing the hp logo screen, then a black screen with the cursor at the top left, and then complete black (screen off)

This cycle repeats endlessly, and if I hit "ESC" to trigger the Startup Menu at the right time I get a few options, but the F-11 System Recovery doesn't work - just throws me back into the flashing screen cycle!

If you can help me you will be my hero.

If you can't help thank you for trying.

I don't know to function without my baby err computer..........

@CassySue ,

Hello and thank you for posting on the HP support forums.  What you can try and do is go and run a Hardware test from the system BIOS.

Use these links to help you with that.

Hi! I have the same error with my HP Pavilion dv7-1110eo. I think it's because I updated BIOS with a download from HP's site and it made my computer go nuts. Anyways, I found out that my laptop is not broken, no lethal harm was done. It boots up normally if I take off all the USB plug-ins while my laptop is shut. Give it a try and let me know if it works!

 I apologize for not getting back to you sooner. I didn't know I had a reply! Thank you!!!

I am running the diagnostics and I will respond with any details I receive. It seems like the test is working, it is just lengthy!

Again thank you!

I have no USB plug-ins and I did not do what you did (with the updates), but thank you for your information anyway! Never know if I will end up doing the same, right? 🙂
